What thickness shrink wrap should I use for my project?

The details of the job will determine what thickness shrink wrap is best. Shrink wraps range from 6 to 12 mil thickness, with 6 being the thinnest/lightest and 12 the thickest/most durable.

If your item needs to be wrapped for storage but not transport, 6 mil is recommended. 7-9 mil is a better bet for larger containments and transportation needs, because that shrink wrap is a bit more durable than its thinner counterpart. 10 mil shrink wrap is best suited for larger areas that need to be covered, like scaffolding or yachts. The thickest, 12 mil wraps are usually reserved for construction or transport jobs that are sure to be exposed to intense elements.
